Real estate in Paguera: everything you need to know.

Paguera – a versatile village

Paguera, also known as Peguera, is a Mallorcan seaside location in the municipality of Calvia, located in the southwest of Mallorca. Just a few years ago, the place was known for its nightlife and parties . But the local cultural offer has adapted to the changing needs of holidaymakers. Party beaches have become family beaches: More and more quality tourism instead of party tourists are now visiting the attractive coastal town and there are also some attractive living spaces available.

Despite the decline of the party scene, there is still a lot of entertainment on offer.  Along the beach promenade and boulevard there are many cafes, bars and restaurants as well as supermarkets and numerous boutiques. Paguera has a wide range of water sports activities. Numerous excursions to neighboring cities by boat, bus or rental car are possible. The nearby capital Palma can be easily reached by bus or car in 30 minutes.

History of Peguera

Peguera has a young history. The first structures were built at Paguera’s coast in the 1920s. At that time, no one suspected that this place would establish itself in about 100 years to one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mallorca.

In the Middle Ages, the rocky southwest coast of Paguera served as a pirate hideout. At that time, the town of Andratx, not far from Peguera, suffered constantly from pirate attacks. The remains of a watchtower and a small fortress on a cliff are stone witnesses of this period.

The rise of tourism in Mallorca in the late 1950s led to the urbanization of Peguera. The first hotel and apartment complex was built. Many of the tourist facilities have been replaced by new buildings over time. Today, the town centre is characterised by tourism. Hotels, apartment complexes, holiday homes and villas of all categories dominate the streetscape.

The beautiful beaches of Paguera

Paguera offers three beautiful beaches to choose from. The sand is framed by a promenade of beautiful palm trees. Sun-seekers can  relax here. Especially for families with children, the beaches are an ideal place: they may appreciate the cleanliness and the gentle access to the sea.  Lifeguards ensure safety. They keep an eye on beach visitors in high season.

Paguera’s largest beach is Playa Palmira, which is best suited for families. For those who want to relax in the shade,  Playa Tora is  just around the corner. There is always a quiet, shady spot under the trees. Paguera’s smallest beach is Playa La Romana, which impresses with its quiet atmosphere.

However, the beaches of Paguera attract not only those seeking peace and quiet, but also active holidaymakers. In addition to surfing and diving, sailing, water skiing and beach volleyball are popular activities. There is also the possibility of pedal boat and catamaran tours.

Tramuntana Mountains – Hiking & Cycling

If you are more interested in hiking, the Tramuntana mountains are just right. More than 100 kilometers of foothills along the entire north coast of Mallorca have something for every taste, such as fantastic hikes, bike rides or off-road trips by quad.

Cala Fornells – probably the most beautiful district of Paguera

Cala Fornells is a stunning outskirt of Paguera. It is located just a short walk from the town centre. Particularly impressive is the architectural design of the properties. Situated on a rocky hillside, artistically designed luxury villas exude their Mediterranean charm. Many residential complexes and houses in Cala Fornells were designed and built by the Russian architect and builder Pedro Otzop (1917-2000), who fell in love with Mallorca in the 1970s.

Pedro Otzoup has written architectural history, especially in the southwest of the island. In addition to the Casino de Mallorca, the terraced properties “Agua Marina” in Puerto de Andratx (Cala Llamp), “Las Abubillas” near Santa Ponsa and the district “Cala Fornells” near Paguera have become famous as Otzoup complexes. The architectural style of Otzoup is characterized by individual objects that blend into the landscape and drastically differ from schematic residential houses.  The builder was interested in  simple architecture with Mediterranean flair. In Cala Fornells, every property he built is different, but the overall picture is uniform and harmonious.

The idyllic village of Cala Fornells is cared for by a team of complex managers, secretaries and gardeners: they take care of around 700 apartments and gardens with large flower pots. Each owner is responsible for planting the terraces and balconies of the apartments and villas. This costs around 62,000 euros per year and is distributed to the owners according to quotas. The allocation depends on the  size of the apartment.  A basic apartment is about 60 square meters, consists of a living and dining area with American kitchen, a bedroom and   a bathroom. Today, an apartment in Cala Fornells costs at least 300,000 euros.

The real estate market of Paguera is more affordable than in its more luxurious neighboring communities.  The price is worth it: Paguera offers comfortable living conditions, a high quality of life and a unique atmosphere. Properties in the first sea line offer breathtaking sea views of the turquoise waters.

Peguera: shopping and restaurants

The Boulevard Peguera, the main street, is currently a one-way street with traffic only towards Santa Ponsa. After 7 p.m. in the high season, traffic almost comes to a standstill and the boulevard becomes a pedestrian zone. Fashion boutiques, jewelry stores, souvenir shops and leather goods shops invite you to shop.

On Tuesdays there is a weekly market offering fresh food. Peguera’s dining options range from steakhouses to tapas bars.

Restaurante Hacienda will delight your palate with Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine.

El Fogòn7 restaurant serves the finest steaks. Whether beef fillet, duck breast or a 600-gram T-bone steak, there is something for every taste.

If you value Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on seafood, you should plan a visit to the Mar y Mar Restaurante & Beach Bar. In addition to the excellent food, the restaurant convinces with its rustic atmosphere.
